Uniting Youth with Lessons Learned from Space
Date: 1 December 2023 – Friday Youth Hub (Green Zone) | COP28 Time: 3:00 – 6:00 pm
about
Space exploration has been an exhilarating pursuit for many individuals. All of today's technologies have been developed with a sense of curiosity and a desire to explore space. While advancing technology, our primary objective is to contribute both to the betterment of Earth and the exploration of space. However, as technologies evolve, we also observe their side effects on Earth, with climate change being the most prominent indicator.
Consequently, questions arise, such as:
- Does the joy of exploring space have detrimental effects on our planet?
- Are we neglecting the protection of our environment in the course of technological development?
- Is there a sense of selfishness in our approach to space exploration?
This workshop aims to foster innovative ideas about climate change through the participation of young professionals and students. Specific questions have been assigned to each roundtable for discussion.
The goal of these questions is to formulate a concrete roadmap for addressing climate change. Each table will be moderated by a senior professional, and participants with diverse backgrounds, including engineering, management, science, policy, etc., will contribute thoughtful and comprehensive observations and recommendations on the five discussion topics at COP28.
Questions assigned to tables
What type of space missions are focused on climate change issues? How can we narrow the gaps to support climate change using these missions?
What project organization methodologies or policies can be implemented into the climate change studies for international collaboration?
What Artificial intelligence tools/methodologies can be used in space systems to foster early warning systems in climate change?
How can countries in the Middle East region create sustainable projects on climate change using space technologies?
How can young professionals improve their skillset in innovation, creativity and enthusiasm to support climate change activities?
